American Family Care and Renasant Bank to break ground on Hwy 280

January 18, 2008

After seeing the need for affordable, quality health care at a convenient location, Dr. Bruce Irwin opened the first American Family Care Medical Clinic in Hoover, AL in 1982. The clinics provide comprehensive family health care, minor emergency treatment, and occupational health care at a reasonable cost. On Friday, January 25th, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. we will break ground with Renasant bank on our 14th location in Birmingham. The address of our new location is 5410 Hwy 280 Birmingham, AL 35242.

This two story, 14,500 sq. ft., state of the art facility will house our health care clinic - which will include digital X- ray and Electronic Medical Records, U-Save Pharmacy, Renasant Bank, and other office space available for lease. Currently, we have thirteen locations in Birmingham, three in Huntsville, two inMontgomery, and two in Mobile. We have started construction on the relocation of our Irondale clinic to the new Eastwood Village and will open in March of this year. A typical clinic is open seven days a week with no appointment necessary and is located in an area convenient to both residential areas and the local business industry. We have identified several areas where expansion would compliment our current operations and it is our goal to open an average of three new clinics each year over the next five years. Today, American Family Care employs over 400 employees and sees about 350,000 patients annually. We are the largest independent provider of health care services in Alabama. In addition, we offer specialty services including general surgery, nephrology, and ENT along with physical therapy and prescription services.

Last year on June 14th American Family Care celebrated their 25th Anniversary and Dr. Irwin’s vision and mission for health care is the same today as it was in 1982 when he founded American Family Care –“It is our mission to provide the best healthcare possible, in a kind and caring environment, while respecting the rights of all patients, in an economical manner at times and locations convenient to the patient”.
